so long Solange!

The screening of WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO SOLANGE was a hit last night. Small crowd, but not a bad print. I had never seen the film before and was surprised at how tight the plot actually was since I find most giallo disappoints in the end. Afterwards, myself and some fellow cinema deviants (including blog contrib Michael) joined up for some pitchers at talk of movie going experiences from days gone by. Again, if you are from Toronto, add some comments and then maybe join us for the next similar screening. I have heard rumblings of a PHANTASM screening at the Bloor in February, plus there are those Lon Chaney shows at the AGO...

great, great time last night. really nice to see this on the big screen. the black gloves during the intro to the movie were a nice touch. trailer reel was awesome. i thought the solange print was a little washed out in spots, but for a flick of that vintage, that's to be expected, and overall, it was in pretty good shape. toronto needs more of these screenings - if vagrancy made this a monthly deal (in. t.o.), that would be amazing. oh, and yes, 35 mm print of PHANTASM at the bloor thurs. feb. 15. apparently reggie bannister's going to be there! woot! great work on the blog, colin - discovered it recently and it's one of the few i check regularly (along with KFF, of course).

I have a vague recollection that the happiness I felt at being assured she died a virgin was brought to me by grapes. A great night that could have been made sublime with the addition of JH. Next time.

I thought Solange was very enjoyable, quite well shot too. I really liked the quiet tone of the film, how it slowly revealed a world of nubile debauchery that goes far beyond what the main character -- who initially seems to be taking advantage -- is capable of.

I hope to make Phantasm on Feb 15th and I'll be hitting The Holy Mountain one night this weekend -- probably either Friday or Sunday.

Hi-dee-ho

Am trying to wrangle a larger group out to see PHANTASM at the bloor. But the out of town friends need more pushing to stumble into the big city :P

I enjoyed Solange aswell adn so did my friends , the gritty film feel has a warm and fuzzy spot in my heart , though the film at some points seemed a bit longer then it should have.

Perhaps some more shower scenes would help ;) But overall was surprised by it and enjoyed it - would have liked to see a full house at The Royal for these things.

I look forward to the next movie they bring to Toronto.
